The Young Farmers’ Federation of Uganda (UNYFA) is an umbrella body for young farmers in Uganda started in 2016 & launched in June 2017 as a duly incorporated member-based organization, with a registration number 80020000478713 under section 18(3) of Companies Act 2012. It has over 50 young farmers associations and initiatives totaling to 20,000 individual young farmers. UNYFA is driven by desire to have a holistically transformed youth in agriculture for a sustainable economy, thus its target group of youth is between 12 to 39 years of age who are rural agro based, those in Schools and out of school/ Institutions. In many of our farmer groups / farmers’ based organizations, it has been realized that youths are sometimes integrated in their activities but have peculiar interests that may need particular attention in their development processes. This became a basis for evolution of UNYFA to provide a platform for these youths where they can express their particular interests and forge a way forward. It’s because youths have the propensity to move with the changing dynamics of the world and are capable of formulating or becoming strong leaders of farmer based organizations. If Uganda is to realize development, the youths need to be involved in development programs so as to reduce the dependency syndrome and to transform the youth groups into a productive force.
