During their first in-person meeting in Uganda, German participants gained firsthand exposure to the country’s coffee value chain through visits to coffee factories, processors, farms, and research institutes.
Likewise the 3 Ugandans will have an exposure on the upper side of the coffee value chain more specifically: the coffee harbor in Hamburg, roasters, coffee importing and exporting companies , certification bodies and those involved in specialty coffee production.
They will carry out business to business discussions with players in coffee value chain as well as engagement in internships.
Led by Samuel Magezi, our Programs Manager, the team will also promote Ugandan coffee in Germany and strengthen collaboration between the two countries.
Jointly organized by the Schorlemer Foundation of the German Farmers’ Association (DBV e.V.) and UNYFA, the CoffeeXchange aims to help youth from both countries gain practical knowledge to develop sustainable business ideas. The goal is to foster fair trade and improve incomes for Ugandan coffee farmers.
It includes both virtual and physical interactions. At least 5 Ugandans already active in the coffee value chain and five Germans mostly university students involved in coffee research were selected.
The program is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under the “Teams up! Youth Encounters for Sustainable Development” program, which is implemented by Engagement Global gGmbH.
