The Uganda Martyrs were part of a community that stood together & endured persecution.
Farmers can draw inspiration from their courage to build strong networks and support each other in tough times, i.e. crop failure, pests and unpredictable weather conditions.
Background
Ugandans commemorate the 45 Christian converts 22 Catholics and 23 Anglicans on June 3rd of each year who were put to death in the late 1880s for their beliefs .
They were put to death by Buganda’s King Mwanga II, who saw Christianity as a challenge to his rule. A significant turning point in Ugandan Christian history, the martyrs’ deaths especially the June 3, 1886, burning at Namugongo serve as a reminder of the costs associated with religious conviction.
